Shreem Electric's Open Stack Capacitor Banks are designed for substations and large industries to improve power factor and maintain optimum reactive power. Each bank is built from single-phase capacitor units connected in series and parallel groups, depending on the required voltage and total kVAR rating, with the series groups mounted on steel racks or enclosures and insulated by inter-stack insulators. The 11 kV and 33 kV fixed banks are single or double star connected and use RVT or NCT unbalance protection, so any unit failure creates an unbalance at the transformer secondary and the relay instantly trips the controlling switchgear. Series reactors rated 0.2%, 1% or 6% are connected with the bank to limit inrush current and protect the capacitors. For higher voltage systems above 33 kV and up to 220 kV, the HV and EHV banks help correct power factor, reduce voltage drops, maintain the voltage profile and increase power transmission capacity. Reference installations include a 54 MVAR, 132 kV bank for TERNA Rete in Italy and a 132 kV fuseless bank for MSETCL in Phaltan, Maharashtra.
